Pro Recipe Tip: Be sure to buy a leaner ground beef for this recipe. This ensures that the crescent rolls don't become soggy from any excess fat releasing from the ground beef as it bakes!
Ingredients

- Ground beef: I like to use a leaner ground beef here to keep the crescent rolls from becoming soggy when baked. Try a 90/10 ground beef mix.
- Onion powder: Adds all of the sweetness of a yellow onion in the filling mixture.
- Garlic powder: Gives that classic garlic flavor in the beef mixture.
- Mustard: Can't have a burger without mustard! Adds a nice acidic flavor to the recipe.
- Ketchup: Everyone's favorite sauce, gives that tomato sweetness to every bite.
- American cheese: The best melty cheese of course! You can substitute with your favorite cheese here as well.
- Crescent Rolls: I always have a tube or two in my fridge for when I'm in a pinch.
- Egg: Helps to seal the crescent ring together and gives it that nice golden brown color.
- Sesame seeds: Adds a bit of crunch and texture to the top as well as nutty flavor.
Tools You'll Need
How to Make Cheeseburger Crescent Ring
- Preheat oven to 375ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it, or you can use a pizza stone.
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink and cooked through. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
- Turn the skillet to medium-low heat. Season the cooked beef with salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder.
- Add ketchup, mustard, and stir until combined well.
- Arrange the cheese slices on top. Allow the cheese to warm up for a minute, then stir into the beef mixture until well combined. Remove the skillet from the heat.
- Unroll crescent rolls, separating each triangle. Arrange in the shape of a sun, with the short ends slightly overlapping.
- Flatten the center dough slightly to create the center base.
- Scoop the filling evenly over the flattened base.
- Bring the tips of the dough over the filling and tuck underneath the center base.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a fork. Brush the top of the ring with the egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake 20-25 minutes or until the dough is golden brown.
- Remove the cheeseburger crescent ring from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve with dill pickles, shredded lettuce, and tomato slices on the side as well as a homemade special sauce (optional) and additional condiments as desired.
Recipe Tips and Tricks
I've been making crescent rings for years with all different fillings! They are so fun to make and it's easy to be creative in the kitchen with them.
- Customize the flavors. Add different spices such as paprika or cayenne, as well as other burger cheeses and toppings, like gruyere, caramelized onions or bacon.
- Be sure to egg wash. Brushing a beaten egg over the pastry dough gives it that golden brown and shiny color that everyone loves.
- Drain the ground beef before filling. Be sure to remove any excess liquid after cooking the ground beef mixture before stuffing inside of the dough. This prevents the dough from being soggy.
- Serve with other burger toppings on the side. I love to serve this recipe with a toppings bar on the side. Some ingredients include shredded iceberg lettuce, homemade special sauce and tomato slices. These are all ingredients that are served fresh on top of a burger rather than baked.
- Make a homemade special sauce to serve. You won't regret it! Simply combine:
- Special Sauce: ½ cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish, 1 teaspoon white vinegar, 1 tablespoon yellow mustard, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon paprika, ¼ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Taste and adjust as desired.
Storing Leftovers
The crescent ring can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days. We recommend reheating in the oven rather than the microwave since the oven will help to toast the crescent dough and prevent it from becoming too soggy.
We don't recommend freezing the ground beef crescent roll since it will ruin the texture of the pastry.
