What cut are Boneless Country Style Pork Ribs
Boneless ribs don’t actually come from the ribs, but are a cut of pork that has a flavor and texture and similar to St. Louis or baby back ribs. They’re often cut from pork shoulder roasts, the blade end near the shoulder.
The fat that is marbled throughout the rib making them extra moist and tender. Slow cooking is ideal to break down the connective tissue and achieve optimal tenderness.

Ingredients

- Country Style Pork Ribs: Boneless country-style ribs are meatier and more tender than the traditional style, making them perfect for soaking up the flavors of the seasoning and sauce.
- Pork Seasoning: A blend of spices that enhances the natural flavor of the pork and adds a delicious crust to the ribs. I like using Gabrick BBQ Pork Rub Seasoning.
- Barbecue Sauce: Use your favorite barbecue sauce! Provides a sweet, tangy, and smoky flavor that caramelizes beautifully during cooking, giving the ribs a mouthwatering glaze. I like using Gabrick BBQ Candy Jalapeno.
Laura Ashley's Tip: Broil the ribs to finish them off. While this step is optional, it caramelizes the barbecue sauce, making the sticky and sweet coating on top.
Tools You’ll Need
- 12"x17" Sheet Pan
- Aluminum Foil
- Tongs
- Measuring Cups and Spoons
- Liquid Measuring Cups
- 6 Quart or Larger Crockpot (if using this cooking method)
How to Make This Recipe
- Preheat your oven to 300°F. Line a large sheet pan with aluminum foil.
- Pat the ribs dry with paper towels and place them in a single layer on the prepared sheet pan. Generously season on all sides with the dry rub. Cover the pan tightly with foil. Bake 2 to 2 ½ hours.
- Carefully remove the pan from the oven. The ribs produce a lot of liquid, so be careful as you transfer the pan and open the foil. Using a fork, check for the ribs tenderness. They should pull apart easily. If they don’t, re-cover with foil and bake an additional 30 minutes. The cooking time varies with the size of your ribs.
- Lower the oven temperature 275°F. Carefully tilt a corner of the sheet pan into a bowl, draining the pan of the liquids. Brush a generous amount of barbecue sauce over all sides of the ribs. Return to the oven. Bake uncovered an additional 30-45 minutes.
- Optional step, broil 3-5 minutes for extra barbecue sauce caramelization.
- Remove the ribs from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. Brush with additional bbq sauce, if desired.
How to Make Barbecue Country Style Ribs in the Crockpot
Guess what? You can also make these easily in the slow cooker. This allows you to set it and forget it for several house, making this recipe even easier and more foolproof. We made sure to test it this way for ease on a busy week!
Pour ¾ cup barbecue sauce on the bottom of the Crockpot. Add the seasoned ribs on top, then pour an additional ¾ cup barbecue sauce on top. Cook on low for 8-10 hours. I prefer to cook these on low as they are more tender, but you can cook on high for 5-6 hours if you’d like.
If you like the caramelized, slightly crisp exterior, transfer the ribs to a foil-lined sheet pan. Brush with barbecue sauce, and broil in the oven 3-5 minutes or until the edges begin to caramelize and brown.
Pro Tips and Substitutions
- Seasoning: You can use a store-bought pork seasoning or spice rub or make your own blend with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, and a touch of brown sugar.
- Barbecue Sauce: Feel free to use your favorite bbq sauce brand. For a different twist, try a honey barbecue sauce or a spicy sauce. You can also opt for a homemade bbq sauce.
- Cooking Method: While this recipe is designed for baking, you can also grill the ribs for an extra smoky flavor. Simply pre-cook them in the oven, then finish on the grill.
- Marinating: For even more flavor, marinate the ribs in the seasoning overnight before cooking.
